Standard ENStandard Test Method for Settlement and Storage Stability of Emulsified Asphalts
Also Known As:
The ASTM D6930-19 standard provides a method for determining the storage stability or settlement of emulsified asphalts. This test measures the permanence of the dispersion of the emulsified asphalt over time. It is important to note that this test method specifically assesses storage stability and settlement, and it does not address other aspects of stability related to the use of emulsified asphalts.
It is emphasized in Note 1 that the accuracy and reliability of the test results depend on the competence of the personnel conducting the test and the calibration and maintenance of the equipment used. Meeting the criteria outlined in Specification D3666 is generally considered indicative of competent and objective testing. However, adherence to Specification D3666 alone does not guarantee reliable results, as multiple factors can influence the accuracy of the test. Following the recommendations in Specification D3666 or a similar acceptance guideline helps evaluate and control some of these factors.
The scope of this standard, as described in section 1.1, is to assess the ability of an emulsified asphalt to remain as a uniform dispersion during storage. This test method is applicable to emulsified asphalts containing a semisolid or liquid asphaltic base, water, and an emulsifying agent.
It is important to note that the notes and footnotes provided in the text of this standard, excluding those in tables and figures, are explanatory in nature and should not be considered as requirements of the standard, as stated in section 1.3.
