The AASHTO M 320-17 standard covers asphalt binders that are graded based on their performance characteristics. This specification is specifically related to the average seven-day maximum pavement design and minimum pavement design temperatures.

The standard includes three tables: Table 1, Table 2, and Table 3. Table 2 incorporates R 49, which is used to determine the critical low cracking temperature by using a combination of T 313 and T 314 test procedures. If no table is specified, the default grading table is Table 1.

Table 3 incorporates TP 70 (MSCR) for determining the non-recoverable creep compliance, Jnr. It is important to specify the grade as "S," "H," or "V" for standard, high, or very high traffic loading when using Table 3.

It is worth noting that asphalt cements graded by viscosity at 60°C are not covered by this specification and should be referred to M 226. Additionally, R 29 provides information on how to determine the performance grade of an asphalt binder.
