Standard ENStandard Specification for Performance-Graded Asphalt Binder Using Multiple Stress Creep Recovery (MSCR) Test
Also Known As:
The AASHTO M 332-20 standard focuses on asphalt binders that are graded based on their performance using the multiple stress creep recovery (MSCR) test. This test helps assess the material's ability to withstand stress and recover its original shape under various conditions. The grading designations provided in the standard are based on the average seven-day maximum pavement design temperature, minimum pavement design temperature, and traffic loading.
To determine compliance with the standard, the specification incorporates the use of T 350, a test used to measure non-recoverable creep compliance, denoted as "Jnr". The traffic loading conditions are classified as standard (S), high (H), very high (V), or extremely high (E), and these designations must be specified for accurate grading.
The standard also includes a couple of notes for reference. Note 1 suggests that for asphalt cements graded by viscosity at 60 degrees Celsius, one should refer to the AASHTO M 226 standard. Note 2 points out that for performance-graded asphalt binder, the AASHTO M 320 standard should be consulted.
