Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete - Construction
Also Known As:
The AS 5146.3:2018 standard establishes the requirements for construction utilizing Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (Reinforced AAC) members, in accordance with AS 5146.1 and AS 5146.2. This includes the incorporation of fixings, flashings, and control joints. It should be noted that this standard does not cover the construction of structures consisting of unreinforced autoclaved aerated concrete blocks.
The standard provides specific thicknesses of AAC panel systems outlined in Part 3. It is important to adhere to these prescribed thicknesses and not modify them without proper justification.
The term "Reinforced AAC structures" in this standard refers to buildings that incorporate Reinforced AAC members such as walls, floors, roofs, beams, etc. Components made from other materials, such as bolts, fixings, and flashings, are also considered.
While the standard outlines recommended forms of construction and detailing in Sections 2 and 3 and specifies requirements for various applications in Sections 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, it acknowledges that alternative construction methods and details can also conform to the requirements of AS 5146.1 and should be assessed separately.
It should be understood that this standard does not restrict the design and construction of structures using alternative materials or methods, as long as they comply with other relevant standards. However, the design and construction of such structures using alternative methods or materials fall outside the scope of this particular standard.
