The ASTM D7404-19 standard provides a method to determine the compositional characteristics of emulsified asphalt. It is applicable to both anionic and cationic emulsified asphalts, as specified in Tables 1 of the ASTM D977 and ASTM D2397/D2397M specifications, respectively. However, this test method is not suitable for solvent-containing emulsions.
The test method involves using a moisture balance analyzer to rapidly and quantitatively determine the residue in emulsified asphalts. It is designed for all nonsolvent-containing emulsion types.
It is important to note that the standard does not currently include a precision and bias statement. Therefore, it should not be used for acceptance or rejection of materials for purchasing purposes.
