Standard ENStandard Test Method for Determination of Ply Adhesion Strength of Reinforced Geomembranes
Also Known As:
The ASTM D6636-01 (R2018) standard provides a method for measuring the adhesion strength between plies of reinforced geomembranes. This test method is specifically designed for internally reinforced geomembranes and coated fabrics.
The standard states that the acceptable value of adhesion will vary for different types of products. However, within a particular type of product, minimum values of ply adhesion can be determined and agreed upon by the producer and consumer. Both parties can then monitor to ensure compliance with the agreed-upon value.
In the event of a dispute arising from differences in reported test results when using this test method for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, the standard recommends that the purchaser and the supplier conduct comparative tests to determine if there is a statistical difference between their laboratories. It is recommended to seek competent statistical assistance for the investigation. Both laboratories should test a group of specimens from the same lot of material, with equal numbers assigned to each laboratory. The average results from the two laboratories should be compared using statistical analysis, such as Student's t-test.
It is important to note that this test method does not determine the strength of geomembrane seams or the ply adhesion strength of geocomposite components. It is solely focused on measuring the adhesion strength between plies of reinforced geomembranes.
