Standard EN SampleStandard Test Method for Fire-Resistive Joint Systems
Also Known As:
ASTM E1966-15 (R2019) is a standard test method that evaluates the performance of fire-resistive joint systems when exposed to fire. The purpose of this test is to determine the ability of the joint system to withstand movement without compromising the fire rating of adjacent fire separating elements, as well as to measure the duration for which the joint system can contain a fire and maintain its integrity.
The standard specifies various measurements and evaluations that are applicable to the test, including the capability of the joint system to undergo movement cycles, its loadbearing capacity, its ability to prevent the passage of flames and hot gases, its transmission of heat, and its resistance to the passage of water during a hose stream test.
However, it is important to note that this test method does not provide evaluations of the degree by which the joint system contributes to the fire hazard by generating smoke, toxic gases, or other products of combustion. It also does not measure the degree of control or limitation of the passage of smoke or products of combustion through the joint system, or the flame spread over the surface of the joint system. These aspects may be determined by other suitable fire test methods.
The test conditions described in this standard are valid only for the specific laboratory test conditions outlined. It is not possible to predict changes in the characteristics measured when different test conditions are substituted or when the end-use conditions are changed.
