Standard EN SampleStandard Test Methods for Physical Testing of Gypsum Panel Products
Also Known As:
ASTM C473-19 is a standard that outlines the test methods for physical testing of gypsum panel products. The standard includes a series of test methods that cover various properties of gypsum panel products. These test methods are organized in a specific order, starting with flexural strength (Method A), followed by core, end, and edge hardness (Method A), nail pull resistance (Method A), and humidified deflection.
Flexural strength is evaluated by supporting the gypsum panel specimen near the ends and applying a transverse load to the middle. Core, end, and edge hardness are determined by measuring the force required to push a steel punch into the test area. Nail pull resistance measures the force required to push a standard nail head through the product. Humidified deflection is evaluated by subjecting a horizontally supported specimen to high humidity.
Additionally, the standard covers other properties such as end squareness, nominal thickness, recessed- or tapered-edge depth, width, length, water resistance of core-treated water-repellant gypsum panel products, and surface water resistance of gypsum panel products with water-repellant surfaces.
It is important to note that the standard includes references to notes and footnotes that provide additional explanatory material. However, these notes and footnotes are not considered as requirements of the test methods unless specified otherwise.
