ASTM D4505-12 (R2017) is a standard specification for preformed retroreflective pavement marking tape for extended service life. The standard defines the requirements for white or yellow preformed retroreflective pavement marking tape, which, when applied to a road surface, will have a service life of more than one year, depending on the average daily traffic count (ADT).
The preformed retroreflective pavement marking tape is suitable for both longitudinal and transverse markings, including word and symbol markings. It is specifically designed to provide a pavement marking with an extended service life.
The specification identifies the tape based on its reflectivity level, which can be either Level I or Level II, and its class, which can be Class 1, 2, or 3. The tape is also classified based on its skid resistance, which can be Level A or B.
The standard also requires various tests to be performed to determine the tape's compliance with specified requirements. These tests include measuring color, dimensions, retroreflection, adhesion, skid resistance, durability, and wear resistance.
