The ASTM E102/E102M-93 (R2021) standard provides a procedure for determining the Saybolt Furol viscosities of bituminous materials within the temperature range of 120 to 240°C (248 to 464°F). This test method is an extension of Test Method D88/D88M.

The purpose of this test method is to characterize bituminous materials and establish uniformity of shipments and sources of supply. It is an empirical procedure that measures the viscosity of bituminous materials using the Saybolt Furol method, which involves determining the time it takes for a specified volume of material to flow through a calibrated orifice at a specified temperature.
