Standard ENStandard Specification for Finishing Hydrated Lime
Also Known As:
ASTM C206-14 is a standard specification that outlines the requirements for finishing hydrated lime. This type of lime is used in various applications such as plaster, stucco, mortar, and as an addition to Portland-cement concrete. The standard covers two types of finishing hydrated lime: Type N and Type S.
Type N is the normal hydrated lime for finishing purposes, while Type S is the special hydrated lime for finishing purposes. The distinction between the two lies in the limitation on the amount of unhydrated oxides specified for Type N, and the requirement for determining the plasticity of Type N after soaking for 16 to 24 hours.
The standard specifies that finishing hydrated lime should show no pops or pits. The chemical composition of the lime should comply with the required contents of calcium and magnesium oxides, carbon dioxide, and unhydrated oxides. Additionally, the plasticity figure for the lime is also specified.
To ensure compliance with the standard, various test methods are to be performed, including chemical analysis and physical tests. This specification provides the necessary guidelines for manufacturers and users of finishing hydrated lime to ensure its quality and suitability for the intended applications.
