Standard ENStandard Specification for Fiber-Reinforced Concrete
Also Known As:
The ASTM C1116/C1116M-10a (R2015) standard is a specification that covers all forms of fiber-reinforced concrete, where the ingredients are uniformly mixed and delivered to a purchaser. This standard also applies to fiber-reinforced concrete used for shotcreting by the dry-mix process, as long as sampling and testing can be done at the point of placement. However, it does not cover the placement, consolidation, curing, or protection of the concrete after it is delivered to the purchaser.
The fiber-reinforced concretes are classified based on the type of fiber incorporated. Type I includes steel fiber-reinforced concrete with stainless, alloy, or carbon steel fibers. Type II consists of glass fiber-reinforced concrete with alkali-resistant glass fibers. Type III involves synthetic fiber-reinforced concrete with synthetic fibers, and Type IV comprises natural fiber-reinforced concrete with cellulose fibers.
The concretes can be furnished either through batch mixing or continuous mixing, and they must be free of fiber balls when delivered to the designated point by the purchaser. The standard provides thorough discussions on tolerances, acceptance criteria, and performance requirements for workability and air content of the fiber-reinforced concrete.
