Railway Applications: Track, Rail, Switch, and Crossing Rails Used in Conjunction with Vignole Railway Rails 46 kg/m and Above
Also Known As:
The BS EN 13674-2:2019 standard specifies the requirements for switch and crossing rails that are used in conjunction with Vignole railway rails, specifically those with a weight of 46 kg/m and above. This standard does not cover check rails that do not carry railway wheels.
The standard defines nine pearlitic steel grades, which range in hardness from 200 HBW to 410 HBW. These steel grades include non-heat-treated non-alloy steels, non-heat-treated alloy steels, heat-treated non-alloy steels, heat-treated low alloy steels, and heat-treated alloy steels.
A total of 33 rail profiles are specified in this standard, although it is important to note that not all profiles may be available in all of the specified steel grades.
It is worth mentioning that rails complying with the requirements of EN 13674-1 can also be used as switch and crossing rails. Therefore, if EN 13674-1 compliant rails are utilized in this capacity, they will meet the requirements outlined in BS EN 13674-2:2019.
