Railway Applications: Track - Rail - Vignole Railway Rails 46 kg/m and Above
Also Known As:
The BS EN 13674-1:2011+A1:2017 standard provides specifications for Vignole railway rails with a linear mass of 46 kg/m and greater. The standard is applicable to both conventional and high-speed railway tracks.
This standard defines nine pearlitic steel grades with varying hardness levels, ranging from 200 HBW to 440 HBW. These steel grades include non-heat treated non-alloy steels, non-heat treated alloy steels, heat treated non-alloy steels, and heat treated alloy steels. The specification covers a wide range of materials suitable for different railway applications.
The standard also specifies 23 different rail profiles, which are designed to meet the varied requirements of different railway track systems. These rail profiles ensure optimal performance and safety for the specific track configuration.
In addition, the standard defines two classes of rail straightness, each with different requirements for straightness, surface flatness, and crown profile. This classification allows for the selection of the appropriate straightness criteria based on the specific demands of the railway track.
Furthermore, the standard includes two classes of profile tolerances, which determine the acceptable variations in the rail profile. These tolerances ensure the compatibility and interchangeability of rails within the specified class.
