PAS 8810:2016 is a standard that aims to streamline and standardize the design process for segmental tunnel linings. It brings together various existing standards and documents into a single, usable document, in order to reduce administration and delay in tunnel design.

The standard is intended for use by design engineers, clients, and contractors involved in the design of concrete segmental tunnel linings. It provides recommendations for the design of these linings, covering considerations from project inception to the end of the tunnel's service life.

The standard includes general aspects of tunnel design in Clauses 4 to 8, and specific technical recommendations for precast concrete lining elements in Clauses 9 to 12. It references existing national and international industry standards and also provides specific design recommendations not available in any other standards.

PAS 8810 covers a range of topics, including functional requirements, conceptual design, characterization of ground, materials design and specification, material characterization and testing, limit state design, concrete segmental lining design, concrete segment lining modeling, and instrumentation and monitoring.

However, it does not cover other types of tunnel linings (such as sprayed concrete lined or cast-in-situ concrete lined tunnels), any tunnel linings using materials other than concrete, cut and cover tunnels, drill and blast excavations, hard rock tunnelling, pipe jacking, or project planning and management.
