Construction Materials: Alkali-Activated Cementitious Material and Concrete - Specification

SKU111761241 Published by British Standards Institution BSI Publication Date2016-04-30 Pages CountPages58

PAS 8820:2016 is a specification developed in response to the UK's Construction 2025 strategy, which aims to achieve lower emissions, lower costs, faster delivery, and improved exports in the construction industry. This standard focuses on alkali-activated cementitious material (AACM) and concrete, which are low carbon cements that offer performance benefits such as improved chemical and fire resistance, lower permeability to water and aggressive agents, and faster delivery for precasting products.

The purpose of PAS 8820 is to encourage the use of AACMs in the construction industry and to provide performance requirements for these materials. It specifies the requirements for AACMs comprising aluminosilicate main constituents and an alkali activator, as well as the assessment of concrete obtained through the use of AACMs for performance and durability. However, it does not set detailed composition requirements for AACMs, address applications for renders, screeds, mortars, or repair materials specifically, or cover the use of hazardous waste materials.

PAS 8820 is intended for use by manufacturers of alkali-activated cementitious material, producers of prefabricated concrete elements containing AACMs, producers of concrete containing AACMs for precast, ready-mixed, or in-situ applications, as well as designers and specifiers in the construction industry.
