Health and Safety in Tunnelling in the Construction Industry: Code of Practice
Also Known As:
The BS 6164:2019 standard primarily focuses on ensuring the safety of individuals involved in tunnelling projects and those who may be affected by them. This code of practice provides recommendations and guidance on health and safety practices specifically related to shaft sinking and tunnel construction. It is applicable to various forms of underground construction, maintenance, renovation, and repair work, including cut-and-cover tunnelling and immersed tube tunnels.
It is important to note that this standard does not cover the construction of shafts or tunnels for mineral extraction purposes. The previous version of the standard, BS 6164:2011, has been replaced by the 2019 revision, which incorporates advancements in technology and equipment available to the tunnelling industry, new techniques, and changes in legislation and guidance related to health, safety, and environmental matters.
