Standard EN SamplePrecast Concrete Products: Foundation Piles
Also Known As:
The BS EN 12794:2005 standard specifies the requirements and testing methods for precast concrete foundation piles that are used in building and civil engineering projects. These piles are produced in a factory and then installed at the construction site using techniques such as impact, vibration, pressing, or other suitable methods. The standard can also be applied to foundation piles manufactured on-site in temporary plants, as long as certain production control measures are in place and protection against adverse weather conditions is provided.
The standard covers both reinforced and prestressed concrete foundation piles, which can have either a solid or hollow core and a constant or tapered cross-section. The piles can be manufactured as one continuous length or in segments with cast-in pile joints. Additionally, they may feature an enlarged toe or a pile shoe at the bottom.
The standard specifically applies to normal weight concrete, as defined in EN 206-1, which should be compacted in a way that minimizes the presence of entrapped air. The document sets out the terminology, performance criteria, and test methods to ensure the quality and conformity of precast concrete foundation piles.
