The BS EN 13848-2:2020 standard sets out the minimum requirements for track geometry measuring principles and systems. The aim is to ensure that comparable results are obtained when measuring the same track. This standard is applicable to all measuring systems, whether attended or unattended, fitted on any type of vehicle, with the exception of systems defined in EN 13848-3 and EN 13848-4. It specifically applies to systems that are put into service after the standard takes effect.
It is important to note that this standard does not define the requirements for vehicle acceptance. Additionally, it does not apply to measuring systems that are dedicated solely to Urban Rail Systems. The standard focuses on ensuring the quality and consistency of track geometry measurements for railways, thereby contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of railway operations.
