Standard EN SampleTest Methods for Determining the Contribution to the Fire Resistance of Structural Members: Applied Fire Protection Systems to Steel Beams with Web Openings
Also Known As:
BS EN 13381-9:2015 is a European Standard that outlines a test and assessment method for determining the contribution of fire protection systems to the fire resistance of structural steel beam members with web openings. The standard applies to beams with openings in the web that may affect the structural performance when exposed to fire from three or four sides.
It is important to note that the applicability of this standard for beams with a single web opening or small diameter web openings in relation to the web depth should be determined by a structural engineer. The standard cannot be used in isolation and requires the use of fire protection materials that have already been tested and assessed according to EN 13381-4 or EN 13381-8.
The standard specifies the fire test methodology, including the tests that need to be carried out to determine the thermal characteristics of the fire protection system when exposed to the standard temperature/time curve specified in EN 1363-1. It also provides guidance on the assessment procedure, which includes analyzing the test data and establishing the thermal performance of the fire protection system on cellular beams, temperature ratios between the web post and reference temperature, temperature ratios around web openings and the reference area, and conducting a reassessment of the multi-temperature analysis.
