BS EN 15435:2008 is a European standard that defines the properties, performance, and test methods for precast concrete shuttering blocks. These blocks are non-load bearing and are primarily used for forming walls and partitions when filled with concrete or mortar. They are made from either normal weight or lightweight aggregates, or a combination of both.
The standard specifies that the shuttering blocks may have vertical or horizontal interlocking features, as well as factory-installed supplementary insulation. However, it emphasizes that the blocks are designed to rely on the concrete or mortar infill for their structural performance and should not be used unfilled.
It is important to note that this standard specifically excludes masonry units, which are covered under a different European standard (EN 771-3).
