Standard EN SampleGypsum Blocks - Definitions, Requirements and Test Methods
Also Known As:
BS EN 12859:2011 is a European standard that defines the requirements and test methods for gypsum blocks. These blocks are primarily used for constructing non-load bearing partitions or independent wall linings, as well as for providing fire protection to columns, lift shafts, and service shafts. It should be noted that gypsum blocks are not suitable for building ceilings.
The standard covers various performance characteristics, including reaction to fire, resistance to fire, direct airborne sound insulation, and release of dangerous substances. These characteristics are measured using corresponding European test methods. In addition, the standard provides guidelines for calculating the thermal resistance of gypsum blocks based on their thermal conductivity values.
Furthermore, the standard includes technical specifications for density and pH, which are important for the product's use and acceptance within the construction industry. It also outlines the reference tests for evaluating the conformity of gypsum blocks to the standard.
It is important to note that the standard does not apply to gypsum blocks with a thickness of less than 50 mm or gypsum storey height units.
