Gypsum Blocks - Definitions, Requirements and Test Methods
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 12859 standard focuses on the characteristics and performance of gypsum blocks with smooth faces. These gypsum blocks are primarily used for constructing non-load bearing partitions or independent wall linings and for fire protection purposes. It excludes the use of gypsum blocks for ceilings.
The standard covers various performance characteristics, including reaction to fire, resistance to fire, direct airborne sound insulation, and the release of dangerous substances. To ensure compliance with the essential requirements, the corresponding European test methods are employed. Additionally, it addresses thermal resistance, which is calculated based on the thermal conductivity values provided in section 4.3.2.
The standard also considers additional technical characteristics that are important for the construction industry's acceptance and use of the product. These include convenience classes for density and pH. It outlines the criteria for evaluating conformity to the standard.
However, it is essential to note that the DIN EN 12859 standard does not apply to gypsum blocks with a thickness less than 50 mm or gypsum storey height units.
