Earthworks. Principles and General Rules
Also Known As:
The standard BS EN 16907-1:2018 provides definitions, principles, and general guidelines for the planning, design, and specification of earthworks. Earthworks involve altering the natural terrain to construct various types of structures or facilitate activities such as transportation infrastructure, industrial and residential buildings, water engineering, land reclamation, and more. The standard encompasses a wide range of earth-structures, except for specific cases like trenches and small earthworks, which may have simplified or specific rules. Additionally, structures such as dykes and dams have specific design and construction requirements that may go beyond the scope of this standard. The standard does not cover ground improvement techniques like piling or deep soil mixing, and it acknowledges that national sets of rules exist in different European countries due to varying subsoil and climate conditions. This European Standard provides fundamental rules to achieve the objectives outlined.
