BS 8500-2 complements BS EN 206 by providing national provisions where required or permitted. It covers materials, methods of testing, and procedures that are outside the scope of BS EN 206 but within national experience.
The recent update to the standard expands the range of cementitious materials covered, including natural pozzolana, natural calcined pozzolana, high reactivity natural calcined pozzolana, Portland-pozzolana and pozzolanic cements, and ternary cements with up to 20% limestone fines. The update also provides clarity on the use of the equivalent concrete performance concept and offers additional guidance on the preparation and transport of cube specimens for strength testing.
