Qualification Code for Manufacturers of Structural Glued-Laminated Timber
Also Known As:
The CSA O177-06 (R2020) standard is the fifth edition of this code, superseding previous editions published in 1989, 1981, 1977, and 1965.
The scope of this standard is to outline the requirements for the qualification of shop manufacturers of laminated structural timber, specifically glued-laminated timber (Glulam). Glulam is an engineered wood product that requires precise manufacturing at all stages to ensure its properties are in accordance with specified strengths. As Glulam cannot be tested in the field, quality control during manufacturing is essential.
The standard defines the requirements for determining the initial and continuing suitability of a plant's personnel, equipment, and procedures for manufacturing structural glued-laminated timber in accordance with CSA O122. Individual plants need to be separately qualified, even if operated by the same fabricator. However, the standard does not cover glue laminating using mobile or temporary facilities. It's important to note that certification of Glulam is not covered by this standard, but rather by CSA O122.
