Clay Pavers - Requirements and Test Methods
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 1344 standard outlines the specifications for clay pavers and accessories used in construction. The standard is applicable to both flexible and rigid forms of construction, where pavers are either laid with narrow sand-filled joints on a sand bed or with cementitious mortar joints on a mortar bed placed on a rigid base.
These clay pavers are primarily intended for exterior use in pavements but may also be used internally. The flexible form of construction is designed to withstand pedestrian and vehicular traffic, while the rigid form is typically subjected to pedestrian traffic. However, this standard excludes clay products intended for refractory and chemical engineering applications, as well as clay floor tiles and clay masonry units.
The standard does not cover the tactile or visual aspects of the clay pavers. Instead, it focuses on specifying the performance characteristics and classes through test methods provided in normative annexes. Additionally, the standard addresses product marking and conformity evaluation in accordance with the requirements set forth in DIN EN 1344.
