Standard EN SampleTimber structures - Cross laminated timber - Part 1: Component performance, production requirements and certification scheme
Also Known As:
ISO 16696-1:2019 is a standard that establishes the principles for component performance, production requirements, and the certification scheme for cross laminated timber (CLT). CLT products are made from solid-sawn timber or wood-based panels with at least three layers, where the grain of adjoining layers is at right angles to each other.
The standard provides information on CLT dimension tolerances, component requirements, performance criteria, production, testing, trade marking guidance, and minimum requirements for factory production control. It is based on the structural performance and bondability of known species, species combinations, and wood-based panel materials.
The purpose of this standard is to ensure that CLT products can withstand the effects of moisture on their structural performance, such as those caused by construction delays or other similar conditions. It should be noted that this standard does not cover the use and installation of CLT, as that will be addressed in ISO 16696-2.
