Standard ENStandard of Method of Test for Measuring Adhesion of Hot-Poured Asphalt Crack Sealant Using Direct Adhesion Tester
Also Known As:
The AASHTO T 370-18 standard defines a testing method to determine the adhesion strength of hot-poured asphalt crack sealant. This test is conducted at the specified application temperature as outlined in MP 25 and PP 85.
The adhesion test performed is a fracture test, where tensile forces are applied to the interface between the sealant and aluminum end pieces. The sealant is confined between two half-cylindrical aluminum end pieces. During the test, the applied force and displacement are recorded over time. The energy required to break the bond is calculated by measuring the area under the load-displacement curve. This energy is considered a measure of the bonding strength. Additionally, the maximum force required to failure can be reported as the adhesion strength.
It is worth noting that this standard was formerly designated as a provisional standard with the designation TP 89.
