Standard ENProvisional Standard Method of Test for Determining the Quality of Tack Coat Adhesion to the Surface of an Asphalt Pavement in the Field or Laboratory
Also Known As:
AASHTO TP 115-16 (2019) is a provisional standard method of testing the quality of tack coat adhesion to the surface of an asphalt pavement. The purpose of this standard is to determine the tensile strength of tack coat materials on the free surface of asphalt pavement, either in the field or in a laboratory setting.
The test can be conducted using two different methods: on the actual surface of asphalt pavement or on gyratory-compacted samples with a diameter of 150-mm (6-inches). This allows for flexibility in testing conditions and the ability to perform evaluations both in a controlled lab environment and on existing pavement surfaces in the field.
By measuring the tensile strength of the tack coat adhesion, this standard provides a quantitative measure of the quality of the binder material, which is essential for ensuring the durability and longevity of the asphalt pavement. Adhering to this standard can help improve the overall quality and performance of asphalt pavements by ensuring adequate adhesion of the tack coat material.
