Standard ENProvisional Standard Method of Test for Determining the Quality of Tack Coat Adhesion to the Surface of an Asphalt Pavement in the Field or Laboratory
Also Known As:
AASHTO TP 115-16 (2021) is a provisional standard method used to determine the quality of tack coat adhesion on the surface of an asphalt pavement. The standard focuses on measuring the tensile strength of the tack coat material to assess its adhesion quality. This can be done either in the field directly on the asphalt pavement surface or on samples that have been gyratory-compacted to a diameter of 150 mm (6 inches). The aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of the tack coat in bonding the new asphalt layer to the existing pavement surface, ensuring a strong and durable connection. By conducting this test, engineers and technicians can assess the performance and quality of the tack coat, helping to ensure optimal adhesion and long-term pavement performance.
