Standard ENStandard Method of Test for Quantitative Determination of the Percentage of Lime in Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA)
Also Known As:
The AASHTO T 362-17 (2021) standard is a method used to quantitatively determine the percentage of lime in hot mix asphalt (HMA). This is achieved by calculating the amount of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) recovered from a sample of the HMA. To collect a sample, a drilling process is employed to obtain the drilling dust from the mixture. The specimen is then subjected to an acid filter boil and wash, which helps in isolating the lime present in the HMA. The analysis of the specimen can be performed using either Atomic Absorption (AA) or Ion Exchange Chromatography (IEC) techniques.
It is important to note that this standard was previously designated as provisional standard TP 72. This indicates that it has undergone revisions and improvements to become an official and recognized standard for determining the percentage of lime in hot mix asphalt.
