The AASHTO T 362-17 standard provides a standardized method for quantitatively determining the percentage of lime in hot mix asphalt (HMA). The key principle behind this method is the calculation of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) recovered from a sample of the HMA. To obtain a representative specimen, a drilling process is employed to collect the drilling dust from the HMA. The collected specimen is then treated with an acid filter boil and wash to extract the lime content. The lime content is subsequently analyzed using either Atomic Absorption (AA) or Ion Exchange Chromatography (IEC) techniques.
It is worth noting that this standard was previously known as provisional standard TP 72 before its current designation as AASHTO T 362-17.
