Standard ENStandard Specification for Lime for Asphalt Mixtures
Also Known As:
The AASHTO M 303-89 (2019) standard provides requirements for two types of lime that can be used to reduce water susceptibility in asphalt mixtures. The first type, Type I, is a high calcium-hydrated lime with a maximum magnesium content (calculated as magnesium oxide) of 4 percent by mass. Compliance with the chemical composition requirements for Type I lime can be determined using the test method T 219. The second type, Type II, is magnesium or dolomitic lime with a magnesium oxide content greater than 4 but not exceeding 36 percent by mass. Compliance with the chemical composition requirements for Type II lime can be determined using ASTM C 25, with the exception of Section 2, which is excluded for this specification. The specification does not provide additional details or requirements beyond the mentioned chemical composition limits and the test methods to determine compliance.
