Standard EN SampleDesign of Steel Lattice Towers and Masts
Also Known As:
AS 3995:1994 is a standard that provides guidelines for the design of steel lattice towers and masts used for communication purposes. It outlines the procedures for determining design wind speeds, wind loads, and other relevant standards to be used in the structural design. This standard is also applicable to lattice towers and masts where the primary load is wind load on the structure. However, it does not cover the design of transmission line structures or cold-formed steel and aluminum structures unless they comply with AS 1163.
The standard references other appropriate Australian Standards for aspects of design not specifically mentioned, including AS 1170 for loadings, AS 1554 for welding, AS 1559 for bolts and rivets, AS 1650 for hot-dip galvanizing, AS 3569 for steel wire ropes, and AS 4100 for steel structures.
The standard also includes additional information in the form of notes. Appendix A provides a general framework for maintenance and inspection of existing structures, while Appendix B offers recommendations for safe access to steel lattice towers and masts. If required by the Health and Safety Authority, provision of safe access to such structures should be considered during the design stage.
