Standard ENStandard Specification for High Solids Content, Cold Liquid-Applied Elastomeric Waterproofing Membrane for Use with Separate Wearing Course
Also Known As:
ASTM C836/C836M-18 (R2022) is a standard specification that outlines the required properties and test methods for a cold liquid-applied elastomeric waterproofing membrane. This specification is specifically intended for use in waterproofing building decks and walls that are subjected to hydrostatic pressure in areas occupied by personnel, vehicles, or equipment.
The membrane described in this standard is designed to be covered with a separate wearing course, traffic course, or backfill. After application by spreading or spraying, the membrane materials are expected to cure and form an elastomeric film that can effectively seal against liquid water.
To ensure compliance with the standard, various tests are conducted on the membrane materials. These tests include determining hardness, weight loss, nonvolatile matter content, low temperature crack bridging, film thickness, adhesion-in-peel after water immersion, extensibility after heat aging, and storage stability.
It is important to note that proper application of the membrane should follow the guidelines outlined in ASTM Guides C898/C898M and C1471/C1471M. There are currently no ISO standards that are similar to or equivalent to ASTM C836/C836M-18 (R2022).
