Standard ENStandard Specification for Structural Silicone Sealants
Also Known As:
The ASTM C1184-18e1 standard specifies the properties of cold liquid applied, single-component or multicomponent, chemically curing elastomeric structural silicone sealants. These sealants are designed to structurally adhere components of structural sealant glazing systems. There are different types and uses of sealants, including Type S, Type M, Use G, and Use O.
This standard describes the physical, mechanical, and performance properties that the sealant must conform to. It outlines various test methods that should be performed to assess the sealant's properties, such as rheological properties, extrudability, hardness, heat aging, tack-free time, tensile adhesion, and shelf life.
The standard emphasizes that only properties with industry-agreed minimum acceptable requirements, as determined by available ASTM test methods, are described. Other properties may be added in the future as ASTM test methods for those properties become available.
It is important to note that the values provided in the standard are in metric (SI) units, with values in parentheses being for information purposes only. The standard also acknowledges two comparable standards by other organizations: ETAG No. 002 and the Chinese national standard GB16776.
