Standard EN SampleStandard Specification for Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) Sheeting for Concealed Water-Containment Membrane
Also Known As:
The ASTM D4068-17 (R2022) standard specifies the requirements for flexible chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) sheeting used in concealed water-containment membranes. These membranes are used in applications that are prone to costly secondary damage from leakage and require long-term reliable performance. Examples of such applications include fountains, pools, planters, shower and safe pans, and tile tubs. However, this standard does not cover water-containment membranes exposed to ultraviolet light or direct sunlight.
The sheeting used in these membranes must be manufactured from a compound containing chlorinated polyethylene resin, which is substantially amorphous and made from linear polyethylene. Recycled materials may be used, but they must meet the specified requirements. The use of water-soluble materials is prohibited. The sheeting should be homogeneous, monolithic, and free from defects such as pinholes, foreign matter particles, undispersed raw materials, blisters, coaters, pimples, pits, crazing, and thin spots. The sheet edges should be straight, parallel, and free from trim material.
Various tests are required to ensure the quality and performance of the sheeting. These tests include tensile strength, tear resistance, low-temperature flexibility, chemical resistance, hydrostatic pressure resistance, puncture resistance, bonded seam strength, thickness, pinholes, shrinkage, and more. The results of these tests must meet the specified requirements.
