Standard EN SampleStandard Specification for Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) Sheeting for Concealed Water-Containment Membrane
Also Known As:
The ASTM D4068-17 standard is a specification for flexible chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) sheeting used in concealed water-containment membranes. The purpose of this standard is to ensure the reliable performance of the sheeting in applications that are susceptible to leakage and require long-term durability, such as fountains, pools, planters, shower pans, and tile tubs.
The sheeting must be manufactured from a compound that contains chlorinated polyethylene resin, which is made from linear polyethylene and is substantially amorphous. Recycled materials may be used, but they must meet the specified requirements. Water-soluble materials are not allowed.
The sheeting is expected to be homogeneous, monolithic, and free from defects such as pinholes, foreign matter, blisters, and thin spots. The edges of the sheeting should be straight, parallel, and free from trim material.
Various tests, such as tensile strength, tear resistance, chemical resistance, and low-temperature flexibility, are performed to ensure that the sheeting meets the required specifications. The standard does not cover water-containment membranes that are exposed to ultraviolet light or direct sunlight.
