The ASTM D146/D146M-04 (R2020) standard provides procedures for sampling and examining felts and woven fabrics used in waterproofing or constructing built-up roof coverings.
The standard begins by specifying the various tests that need to be conducted on the sampled specimens. These tests include examining the mass of wrapping material and mandrel, the net mass per unit area, the appearance and dimensions of rolls, the amount of detached comminuted surfacing, moisture content, strength, pliability, and loss on heating.
Additionally, the desaturated felt or fabric is subject to further examination for weight, retained carbonaceous matter, total comminuted surfacing, bituminous saturant, thread count of fabrics, thickness of felts, and ash content.
