Standard ENStandard Specification for Heavy Vehicular Paving Brick
Also Known As:
The ASTM C1272-17 standard outlines the requirements for bricks intended for use in areas with a high volume of heavy vehicular traffic. These bricks are designed to be used in streets, commercial driveways, aircraft taxiways, and similar applications.
The bricks specified in this standard are manufactured from clay, shale, or similar naturally occurring earthy substances. They are subjected to a heat treatment, such as firing, which develops sufficient fired bonds between the material particles to ensure strength and durability. The manufacturing process may involve extruding, molding, or pressing, and the bricks may have spacing lugs, chamfered edges, or both.
The standard classifies the materials into two types based on their intended installation. All bricks must meet the required values for freeze thaw resistance, abrasion resistance, skid resistance, coring, chips or cracks, and efflorescence. It's important to note that this standard does not cover the evaluation or performance of paving units made from other materials or using other manufacturing methods or binding materials.
