Standard ENStandard Specification for Heavy Vehicular Paving Brick
Also Known As:
The ASTM C1272-21 standard specifies the requirements for heavy vehicular paving bricks used in areas with high volumes of heavy vehicular traffic, such as streets, commercial driveways, and aircraft taxiways. The bricks are made from clay, shale, or similar naturally occurring earthy substances and are subjected to a heat treatment (firing) to develop the necessary strength and durability. The bricks may be shaped by extruding, molding, or pressing during manufacturing and may have spacing lugs, chamfered edges, or both.
The standard classifies the materials into two types based on their intended installation, and all materials must meet the specified values for freeze-thaw resistance, abrasion resistance, skid resistance, coring, chips or cracks, and efflorescence. It is important to note that this standard does not cover applications that are already covered by other specifications (such as C410 or C902). Additionally, the use of this standard to evaluate paving units made from different materials or manufacturing methods is not within the scope of this standard.
