Standard EN SampleStructural Bearings - Elastomeric Bearings
Also Known As:
The BS EN 1337-3:2005 standard addresses elastomeric bearings used in bridge structures or similar support conditions. It covers elastomeric bearings with dimensions in the range of 1200 x 1200 mm and specifies the use of specific elastomer materials. The standard includes various types of elastomeric bearings such as laminated bearings (types A, B, C), laminated sliding bearings (types E and D), plain pad, and strip bearings (type F).
The standard also sets requirements for the operating temperature range of these bearings, which should be between -25 °C and +50 °C, with short-term peaks allowed up to +70 °C. However, it acknowledges that some regions in Northern Europe experience even lower temperatures, down to -40 °C. In such extreme cases, bearing characteristics should also comply with the shear modulus at very low temperatures, as stated in section 4.3.1.3 and annex F of the standard.
