Standard EN SampleStructural Bearings - Sliding Elements
Also Known As:
The BS EN 1337-2:2004 standard specifies the requirements for the design and manufacturing of sliding elements and guides. These sliding elements are not considered structural bearings by themselves, but they are intended to be combined with the structural bearings defined in other parts of the European Standard.
This standard does not cover sliding surfaces with certain characteristics, such as a diameter of the circumscribing circle of single or multiple PTFE sheets less than 75 mm or greater than 1500 mm, or effective bearing temperatures below -35°C or above 48°C. Sliding elements used as temporary devices during construction, such as during the launching of the superstructure, are also excluded from the scope of this standard.
It is important to note that while this standard provides specific requirements for sliding elements within its scope, the general principles outlined in the standard can also be applied to sliding elements outside this scope. However, for those elements, their suitability for the intended use must be demonstrated.
