Structural Bearings - Part 2: Sliding Elements
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 1337-2 standard provides rules and guidelines for the design, testing, and manufacturing of sliding elements. These sliding elements are not structural bearings in themselves but are components that are combined with structural bearings, as defined in other parts of the European Standard.
This standard applies to various types of sliding elements, including flat and curved ones made of materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), lubricant and austenitic steel, chromium-plated surfaces, or anodized aluminum. It also covers sliding elements for guides made of PTFE or composite bearing materials, lubricant, and austenitic steel.
The standard specifies certain requirements for the dimensions and temperature range of these sliding elements. For example, PTFE surfaces with a diameter between 75 mm and 1500 mm are included, and the PTFE surface temperature should range from -35 °C to +50 °C. Furthermore, steel to steel sliding surfaces are addressed in this standard.
It is important to note that this standard does not cover curved sliding elements used in spherical and cylindrical PTFE bearings, as those are covered in EN 1337-7. Additionally, temporary sliding devices used during construction or sliding elements not permanently in contact, apart from guides, are not addressed in this document since their performance and conditions may significantly differ.
To fully comply with this standard, it should be used in conjunction with EN 1337-1 and other relevant parts of the EN 1337 series.
