Standard EN SampleStructural Bearings: Pot Bearings
Also Known As:
BS EN 1337-5:2005 standard provides requirements for the design and manufacture of pot bearings. These pot bearings are intended to be used in a temperature range of -40 °C to 50 °C. The standard specifically applies to pot bearings made with specified materials and excludes those made with other materials. Additionally, the standard does not cover pot bearings subjected to rotations greater than 0.030 rad or those incorporating elastomeric pads larger than 1500 mm in diameter.
The standard allows for the design of pot bearings to be based on the minimum operating temperature requirements, which can be either -25 °C or -40 °C, depending on the climatic region of the construction site. In cases where translational movements need to be accommodated, pot bearings can be combined with sliding elements in accordance with EN 1337-2.
It is important to note that the minimum shade air temperature for a specific location should be determined using meteorological data for a 120-year return period. Consideration should also be given to adjusting this temperature for factors such as height and local divergence, such as frost pockets and sheltered low-lying areas.
