Concrete Poles
Also Known As: CSA A14-07
The CAN/CSA-A14-07 (R2017) standard provides requirements for the design, manufacture, and quality control of all types of concrete poles. It applies to poles manufactured using casting and spinning processes.
The standard does not specify the required strength or other functional properties of pole applications, nor does it address the selection of a particular class of pole or property of a pole. It does, however, address certain special structural, architectural, and functional properties of extra-stiff poles, ornamental poles, high-torsion poles, poles subject to severe exposure, and poles with specified cracking loads.
It is important to note that the standard does not address the vertical load capacity of poles. Concrete poles generally have a substantial, inherent vertical load capacity that is larger than that of wood poles. Annex A of the standard provides formulas for calculating the vertical capacity under different conditions of restraint. Determining the suitable proportions of a pole based on the conditions of restraint is a contractual matter and is beyond the scope of this standard.
