Parking Structures
Also Known As:
CSA S413:21 is a standard that provides special requirements for the design and construction of new parking structures and parts of buildings subject to vehicular traffic. It covers both stand-alone structures and those connected to larger structures or developments, including commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional buildings.
The standard includes specifications for the durability aspects of parking structures, with a focus on ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians. It outlines requirements for various materials and construction methods, including structural steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete.
In this fifth edition, several updates and revisions have been made to enhance the clarity and effectiveness of the standard. Some significant changes include the addition of requirements for fibre-reinforced polymer reinforcement, updates to surface preparation and protection systems, revisions for placement and design of expansion joints, clarifications on concrete types for basement walls, and requirements for crack treatment and footing protection from chloride contamination.
It is important to note that this standard does not cover the repair of existing parking structures. For information on repair and protection of existing structures, the standard refers to CSA S448.1.
