Bituminous mixtures - Test methods - Part 4: Bitumen recovery: Fractionating column
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 12697-4 standard is a test method that outlines the process for recovering soluble bitumen from bituminous mixtures found in pavements. The purpose of this standard is to provide a means of extracting the bitumen in a form that is suitable for further testing. The method described in this standard is primarily intended for recovering paving grade bitumen, but it can also be used for mixtures containing volatile substances such as cut-back bitumen, although the precision of the results may be lower in such cases.
This European Standard serves as the reference method for mixtures that contain volatile substances, while the rotary evaporator procedure outlined in EN 12697-3 is recommended for mixtures containing paving grade bitumen. It should be noted that the recovery of bitumen from mixtures involving polymer-modified bitumen is lacking in experience and therefore may require further study and development.
