Bituminous Mixtures - Test Methods - Part 3: Bitumen Recovery - Rotary Evaporator
Also Known As:
This standard, DIN EN 12697-3, specifies a test method for the recovery of soluble bitumen from bituminous mixtures used in road, airfield, or similar pavements. The purpose of this test is to obtain bitumen in a form suitable for further testing. The test can be performed on both loose and compacted asphalt materials.
The standard is specifically designed for the recovery of paving grade bitumens and is considered the reference method for such materials. It should be noted that mixtures containing volatile matter, such as cut-back bitumen, should follow the fractionating column procedure as outlined in EN 12697-4.
For the recovery of polymer modified bitumens, the rotary evaporator procedure recommended in this standard is suitable. This suggests that the standard addresses different types of bituminous mixtures and provides specific instructions for each type to ensure reliable and accurate bitumen recovery.
